Are you using your phone before bed?
If the answer is “yes”, then keep reading.
Most people like to stay online, because we don’t want to miss anything right? But this is a big problem. Our body needs some rest! Even if you say that you will put your phone away before bed, your head is not really shut down or logged off. You are still thinking of: “What is happening? Who is she going to meet today? What are they going to have for lunch?” This is not the life you should be living. Alert!!! You are willing to know about someones else’s life and not paying attention about your own. You are maybe dreaming of something better or more luxurious but not everything you see is the reality.
Jumping in your bed and the first thing you do is opening up your phone, shouldn’t be the number one thing to do? Maybe you’re saying.. but I read on my phone = well you can take a book instead. If you answer is.. I wanna know what happened in the world = you can instead go out and explore and do something fun, you can even write about it or post something on your social media if you can’t live without it. What I wanna say is, it’s your life and you should live your own story, not some popular insta or famous persons life.
By checking your phone, responding to emails or answer your friends on social media, your brain starts working and it activates your “awake mode”. Your smartphone’s blue light is harmful not just to your eyes but also to your brain. This light is sending an alert to your brain that it is daytime, if you switch to “dark mode” it is better for your eyes but you’re still slowly missing melatonin by looking into your phone no matter what you set your phone to instead of going to bed and closing your eyes.
Best way to start is making a routine. Set a timer for an hour and 30 minutes before you go to bed and then another one an hour before and try to not use it strictly when the second alert goes on before you go to bed. This should give you a routine and you know that you can do anything else instead of using your phone in this timeframe, like reading a book that actually makes your mind and your body relaxed, make a beauty/skin care before bed time, you can also do some meditation or pray, listen to a relaxing music, etc.
